Our Mission.
The mission of the Comstock Community Center is to develop resources and provide a setting for education, recreation, social events, human services and life-long learning activities to enhance the lives of community members and build a healthier community. In persuit of our mission, the CCC provides access to broad range of direct and hosted services for children, families and older adults. Our service area is centered in eastern Kalamazoo County, and extends throughout Kalamazoo County and into western Calhoun County. In addition to a dedicated staff of over 50 men and women, the CCC relies heavily on volunteers to provide programing. In 2011, 1,385 volunteers provided 12,476 hours of service to our community..
Adult Programs at the CCC
Adult programs focus on helping families overcome obstacles and older adults maintain independence. Health & Fitness activities include clinics (foot care, blood pressure, flu etc.), on-site massage and exercise classes (line dancing, tai chi and yoga). Recreational offerings include local excursions, groups and classes (knitting, card playing, bell ringing, painting, ceramics, etc.) and a senior lunch site (Tues/Wed/Thurs).Family programs include home weatherization assistance, utility shut-off assistance, food pantry, group meeting space (Girl Scouts, 4-H, AA/NA, Goldwings, etc.), legal counsel and tax preparation assistance for seniors. We also support at-risk children, families and older adults during the holidays by providing much-needed food and practical gifts at this special time of year.
In 2011, the CCC logged 42,399 direct contacts with local families and older adults. In addition, our hosted programs logged 12,219 contacts, bringing our combined impact to over 54,000. Children & Youth Programs at the CLC
What happens to children effects us all. With this belief in mind, the Community Learning Center (CLC) was created in 2010. As a division of the Comstock Community Center, the CLC represents an intentional investment in our children's future. We offer our area's only high quality, curriculum-based programs in early childhood development; and our commitment to children and youth continues through programs for elementary, middle school and high school students. CLC programs include Infant Care, Toddler Care, Preschool, Before & After School Care, Tutoring (K-5), Summer Programs (K-5) and a Teen Drop-In Center for middle school and high school students.
All CLC programs are designed to provide an affordable, safe and fun learning environment. In addition to providing top-level
programs, we are also conveniently located adjacent to the I-94 Business Loop. Our location provides families from eastern
Kalamazoo County, Kalamazoo County-wide and western portions of Calhoun County with easy access to the very best programs and
services for children and youth. In 2011, the CLC served 877 children and youth (unduplicated) with a total of 61,050 hours
of service.Read moreLearn more about our programs for children and youth at the CLC's dedicated website. You can also learn about supporting the CLC at our Capital Campaign page.
