Our Capital Campaign

For the first time in our 42-year history, the Comstock Community Center is undertaking a Capital Campaign. Never before have we approached the community in this manner. Instead, for over 4 decades we have operated on proceeds from a small millage, grants and, to a limited degree-on the generous support of those who contribute to our annual holiday appeal. This support has allowed us to grow steadily over the past 40+ years.
In recent years, however, the Comstock Community Center has experienced rapid growth in response to community needs. The success of our first-ever Capital Campaign will position the organization for a secure future of service to both children and adults in eastern Kalamazoo County, Kalamazoo County-wide and neighboring portions of Calhoun County. We invite you to discover your part in supporting the Campaign-to becoming
"All aBout Comstock."

Our Campaign Goal & Timeline

The "All aBout Comstock." Capital Campaign goal is $2 million. The Campaign will last up to 3 years, and will conclude once the Campaign goal has been met.

Our Campaign-Funded Projects

Resources secured through the "All aBout Comstock." Campaign will primarily fund pay-off of the Community Learning Center's (CLC's) USDA loan. A small portion of the funds will provide building improvements at the 40-year-old Comstock Community Center (CCC) building on King Highway where Adult Programs are held.

Our Programs

The CLC's loan was secured in 2010, allowing for the purchase and complete renovation of the River Street facility. Services at this location are focused on children 6 weeks-18 year old. Included are daycare, preschool, before/after school, kindergarten+, summer camp and teen programs.By eliminating the USDA loan that made the programs at this facility a reality, over $9,000 per month can be redirected into programs and services.
Adult Programs at the King Highway location include direct assistance, classes, events and activities that improve quality of life primarily for older residents. Improvements at this building will include a new roof, ADA upgrades and other updates that will allow safer and more efficient provision of programs and services.

Our Impact

  • *The CLC opened in spring 2010, and by year's end had served 652 children and their families. This reflected a 43% increase in the number of children/youth served in the prior calendar year.
  • *Also in 2010, Adult Programs at the CCC served 1,248 unduplicated individuals.
  • *A total of 1,789 people volunteered with us in 2010, altogether providing 13,587 hours of service.
