Dorothy' Connor's Toll House Oatmeal Cookie Recipe



1 1/2 cups flour (sifted)
1 tsp salt
1 cup shortening
3/4 cup brown sugar (packed firmly)
3/4 cup white sugar
2 eggs (beaten)
1 tsp soda
1 tsp hot water
1 cup nut meats (cut fine)
7 oz pkg Semi-sweet chocolate pieces
2 cups oats (uncooked)
1 tsp vanilla

Sift flour once before measuring then sift together with salt. Cream shortening until soft. Add sugar gradually, creaming until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition. Dissolve soda in hot water and add to creamed mixture alternately with sifted dry ingredients. Add nuts, chocolate and oats and mix thoroughly. add vanilla and blend well. Drop by teaspooon onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake 375 degree oven for 10-12 minutes.
