C.H.I.K.S. (Confidence, Honor, Independence,Knowledge and Sucess) is grant funded through Michigan WOmen's Foundation and the Kalamazoo Community Foundation. It is a mentoring program for Comstock Middle and High School young women. The high school girls (10 - 12th grades) are considered Mentors for the 7-9th grade Mentees. The program focuces on Healthy Relationships, Building Friendships. Healthy Life Choices, Career Building, Self Esteem & Self - Image, and Plans for the Future.
Meetings are held every other Wednesday after school until 5:00pm. Snacks, beverages and a lot of fun and laughter are provided at the meetings.
There is also a fun activity/field trip once a month. Some examples of the activities we do and have done in the past are bowling, mini-golf, Michigan Adventure (during the summer), lock-in, movie theater trip, holiday parties and many more. All trips are sponsored by the Community Center so the girls do not have to pay out of pocket.

    summer camp kids and staff
Camp SummerFun is a fun adventure for children entering 1st-5th Grade in the fall. Camp for summer 2008 will run from June 16-August 22, the week of the Fourth of July will be a short week but we will still have camp Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We have a before and after care program in addition to camp.
Camp is a great experience for children! Our friendly and enthusiastic staff, as well as the other children, will open up their social experiences as well as encourage them to try new things throughout the summer. The staff works on team-building, buddy-system, manners, respect, responsibility, and HAVING FUN all at the same time!! Each week at camp has a theme. Some examples of past themes are: Holiday Week, Super Hero Week, Wacky Kids Week, etc.
